BRUSSELS, 21 August 2023 / PRN Africa / — The European Union Training Mission Mozambique and the Defence Armed Forces of Mozambique (FADM) will conduct the GAMBA Exercise 2023 (GAMBEX 23), at the end of August, in Manica Province.
GAMBEX 23 is a joint final exercise to evaluate the two Quick Reaction Forces (QRFs) trained during EUTM MOZ’ 4th Training Cycle, that started 16 weeks ago in Katembe and Dongo Training Camps. The Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) team, trained at the Mavalane Training Camp, will also integrate the exercise with both QRFs.
GAMBEX 23 will demonstrate that the QRFs trained by the EUTM MOZ are ready to fight terrorism in Cabo Delgado, defeat all acts of aggression, and contribute to the restoration of the safety and security in that region.
GAMBEX 23 will allow participants to learn from each other, and will strengthen the relationship and interoperability between the EUTM MOZ and the FADM. The training value of GAMBEX 23 confirms the success of the EUTM MOZ mission.
The EUTM MOZ has 118 military and civilian personnel from 12 European Union member states – Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden.
The EUTM MOZ mission is to provide training and support to the FADM to protect the civilian population and restore security in the Cabo Delgado province. The mission has a non-executive mandate and will end on the 9th September 2024, two years after the mission has reached Full Operational Capability. The EUTM MOZ is one of the tools to address the crisis in Cabo Delgado, in conjunction with support for peacebuilding, conflict prevention and dialogue support, humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.
